Cristeros

Japanese: cristeros
Cristeros

"What Sinarkism wants is a homeland for the propertied and for free men," they argued. The alliance, led by military discipline, defended private ownership and criticized the excesses of Cardenas' reforms in the collectivist and socialist directions. It also inherited the mystical traditions of the Cristeros movement of the 1920s. By doing so, it developed from an imported fascist organization into a major popular movement rooted in Mexico, finding widespread support especially among the poor peasants of the backward central states, who were growing increasingly distrustful of the bureaucratic land redistribution policy. At its peak in 1940-41, it was able to mobilize more than 500,000 members. It finally began to decline between 1944 and 1948, but it still wields some hidden power, and in the 1979 general election, the successor to the League, the Mexican Democratic Party (founded in 1971), won about 300,000 votes and won 10 of the 400 seats in the National Assembly, making it one of the ultra-conservative factions within the system (as of 1989, it holds 13 of the 500 seats).
