The Brave Tailor - The Brave Tailor
Grimm's Fairy Tales No. 20. A little tailor kills seven flies by swatting them off a loaf of bread, so he makes a sash with "one strike, seven kills" written on it and heads to town. He meets an o-nyūdō (monk) and defeats him by tricking him into a test of strength. While he is sleeping in the palace garden, the king, who sees his sash and takes him in, hires him. However, the generals become jealous and he is ordered to slay giants in the forest, but he uses his wits to defeat them by killing them in a mutual kill. He is next ordered to slay a unicorn in the forest, and thirdly, a boar, and he uses his wits to succeed. The king is forced to marry the princess as promised, but the tailor nearly reveals his true identity when he says in his sleep that he should mend his trousers.
