A term used in paleography. A type of compound document in which the addressee of a letter writes a reply to the letter and sends it back. Drawing a line through the beginning of the statement that requires a reply is called kan, and drawing a line through the statement and writing the reply next to it is called kan henshi. 〘名〙 古文書学の用語。複合文書の一種で、書状の名宛人がその書状に返事を書きこんで返送したもの。その書状で返事を必要とした事柄の記文の冒頭に棒線を引くことを勘といい、棒を引いてその傍に返事を書きこんだものを勘返という。
