Yuki [city] - Yuki
A city in western Ibaraki Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It occupies the alluvial lowlands of the middle reaches of the Kinugawa River. The city center has developed as a castle town and market town since the Middle Ages, and is served by the Mito Line Route 4 Bypass and Route 50. Silkworm farming has been popular in the surrounding farming areas since ancient times, and Yuki Tsumugi silk, which developed as a side business, is famous. Main roads have been developed, and industrial parks have been created where electronic, electrical, and machine factories have set up shop. Food processing industries such as kiri chests are also carried out. The city center has a historic streetscape that retains the original form of a castle town, and many famous temples built in the late Middle Ages are located in the surrounding area, making it known as a "city of history." The city suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 65.76 km2 . 52,494 people (2010).
