Hunting tradition - Shuryodensho

Japanese: 狩猟伝承 - しゅりょうでんしょう

A general term for the actions, beliefs, and knowledge that hunting people have inherited from leaders of previous generations as the customs or habits of their peers, or that they have instilled in the next generation of young people as the experiences and knowledge of their own generation. Modern hunting license laws allow anyone to hunt as long as they have reached a certain level of skill, regardless of whether they have this kind of knowledge or not, and there is a growing tendency among these people to generally dismiss these traditions as superstition, so most of them are rapidly disappearing.

狩猟に従事する人々が仲間の慣行あるいは習俗として前世代の指導者から受け継ぎ，あるいは自己の世代の体験や知識として次代の青年たちに教えこんできた行為，信条，知識などの総称。現代の狩猟免許法は，この種の知識の有無にかかわらず一定の技術水準に達していればだれでも狩猟することを認めており，またそれらの人々はこれらの伝承をおしなべて迷信としてしりぞける風潮が強くなってきたので，その大半は急速に消滅に向かいつつある。
