A resort city in the northwest of Jamaica in the Caribbean. It is the second largest city after the capital, Kingston, with a population of 83,446 (1991). It developed rapidly after World War II and has an international airport. There are also air and rail links to the capital, and under the pro-American Seaga administration that came to power in 1980, the city was redeveloped as part of tourism development.
