Igomori Festival

Japanese: 忌籠祭 - いごもりまつり

It is also written as Saigo-sai or Igo-sai. When the festival is held, the priests and other people directly involved in the festival cut off all ties with the outside world and stay in a specific place and time to be able to welcome the spirits of the deity. A festival in which this is imposed on all parishioners is called Igo-sai. At Tosa Shrine's Saigo-sai (March 11-13), from March 11th the priests who are serving in the festival cut off all ties with the outside world and stayed inside the shrine. The doors to the Tamagaki fence were then closed and parishioners were only allowed to worship from outside. The event was also held in low voices and soft sounds, with loud voices being prohibited.

斎籠祭，居籠祭とも記す。祭りの執行に際して，神職など祭りに直接関与する者は外部との関係を絶ち，神霊を迎えることができる心身になるために，特定の期間･場所で心身を慎む。これが氏子全員に課せられている祭りをとくに忌籠祭という。土佐神社の斎籠祭(3月11～13日)においては，3月11日より祭りに奉仕する神職は外部との関係を絶ち社内に参籠した。そして玉垣の扉も閉じ氏子の参拝も門外からとした。また行事は高声大音を禁じ，低声微音で執行された。
