1863‐1939 A Soviet soil scientist. Born in Moscow, he graduated from the Petrovskaya Technical School. He studied under L. Pasteur in Paris and ME Wolny in Munich from 1889 to 1891, and after returning to Japan he served as professor and principal of the Moscow Agricultural Technical School and as a member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He advocated the theory of a single soil formation process, which states that soil formation is a continuous and consistent process of soil development, and proposed and promoted a pasture rotation farming system to infinitely expand agricultural production.
