Ryurik - Ryurik (English spelling) Рюрик/Ryurik

Ryurik - Ryurik (English spelling) Рюрик/Ryurik

The founder of the Russian Rurik dynasty. According to the oldest Russian chronicles, the Russian (Russian) tribes, which were plagued by internal conflicts, sent envoys to the "Varyags (Normans) beyond the sea" to ask for a prince to rule them. Three brothers, Rurik, Sineus, and Trubor, responded to this invitation and came to Russia (around 862). Rurik, who was the last of them to survive, is said to have taken full power. Based on the above descriptions in the chronicles, later generations believed that the ancient Russian state was founded by the Norman Rurik. Today, there are many who disagree with this theory, and there are many theories, including those that deny Rurik's existence, those that do not deny it but consider him a conqueror, and those that say that the Russian state was established as a result of the long-term internal development of East Slavic society. After Rurik's death, Oleg, accompanied by his son Igor, occupied Kiev (882), and the foundation of the Rurik dynasty was established here. From then until the end of the 16th century, all Russian princely titles were held by Rurik's descendants.
