A popular drama performed on a temporary outdoor stage during fiestas (festivals) among the Christian lowland people of the Philippines. It became popular from the mid-18th century, but with the introduction of zarzuela at the end of the 19th century, it began to decline and came to be performed only in rural areas. It is an action drama that revolves around a romance between a Christian prince and a Muslim Moro princess (or vice versa), and includes stylized battles between the two groups, and ends with the victory of the Christian side, the conversion of the Muslim princess, and their marriage.
