Mangoura

An inlet on the western side of the base of the Oshika Peninsula in eastern Miyagi Prefecture. It straddles Ishinomaki City and Onagawa Town. The mouth of the bay was blocked by sediment discharged from the old mouth of the Kitakami River to the west, forming a lagoon-like lake, and it is connected to Ishinomaki Bay by the Watanohashi Channel, which is only 200 meters wide. It has an area of ​​about 7 square kilometers. The water is shallow, only 2 to 4 meters deep, and seaweed and oyster farming is thriving here. The west bank was once home to the Watanohashi salt fields, which were directly managed by the Sendai Domain. The land has now been leveled for use as a factory.

宮城県東部、牡鹿半島(おしかはんとう)の基部西側にある湾入。石巻市(いしのまきし)と女川町(おながわちょう)にまたがる。西方の旧北上川(きゅうきたかみがわ)河口から流出した土砂によって湾口がふさがれて潟湖(せきこ)状となり、わずかに幅200メートルの渡波水道(わたのはすいどう)で石巻湾と通じている。面積約7平方キロメートル。水深は2～4メートルと浅く、ノリ、カキの養殖が盛ん。西岸にはかつて仙台藩直営の渡波塩田があった。現在は工場用地として整地されている。
