Japanese: キンチャクダイ(巾着鯛) - キンチャクダイ

A general term for marine fish of the Pomacanthidae family of the Perciformes, or one of these. Fish of this family are known as coral reef fish, and because of their vivid and beautiful colors, they are popular as ornamental fish and have been widely kept in captivity in recent years. Many of them have been treated as separate species because their markings in the juvenile stage are completely different from those of adult fish. Pomacanthids are distinguished from the closely related butterflyfish by a strong spine at the corner of the preoperculum.

スズキ目キンチャクダイ科Pomacanthidaeの海産魚の総称，またはそのうちの1種。本科の魚はいわゆるサンゴ礁魚類であり，色彩が鮮やかで美しいため，観賞魚として喜ばれ，近年盛んに飼育されている。幼期には成魚とまったく異なった斑紋をしているため，別種として扱われていたものが多い。キンチャクダイ類は前鰓蓋骨（ぜんさいがいこつ）の隅の角の部分に強い1本のとげのあることが特徴で，近縁のチョウチョウウオ（イラスト）類と区別される。
