Translator and researcher of sexual customs. His real name was Sadayasu. He used many pen names, including Azuma Tairiku. He was born in Toyama City. He dropped out of the English department at Waseda University. In 1925 (Taisho 14), he advocated breaking down "superstitions about art" and published the magazine "Bungei Ichiba" with Kaneko Yobun and Murayama Tomoyoshi. He started a unique literary movement that mixed Dadaism, proletarian literature, gossip, and perverted materials. He also launched "Hentai Shiryo" and "Grotesque" in succession. They represent one aspect of the erotic, grotesque, and nonsense culture from the end of the Taisho period to the beginning of the Showa period. However, at the bottom of it all was his unique rebellious spirit and a keen eye for discerning the pathology of the times. He also compiled a collection of social and customs materials from a unique perspective, such as "Meiji Taisho Kidan Chinmon Daishusei." In 1934 (Showa 9), he became the manager of the Nippon Theater. [Teruo Ariyama] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
