…There are other facilities for storing Imperial treasures within the Imperial Palace, but according to the “Nishinomiya-ki,” the Imperial treasures of successive generations were stored in the Giyoden, the regular Imperial treasures in the Kourindo-sho and Ryoki-den of the Koshoden, and the paper folding screens in the Jiju-den. The West Room was called the Kugyo-za, and served as the seat of the Kugyo when events were held in the Shishinden, and sometimes held banquets when the Emperor was not present. The East Room contained the Minister’s lodgings and the Jyokan-ji, and it is well-known that Zenbuchi Aisei and others held lectures on the “Nihon Shoki” (Chronicles of Japan) here in 878-881 (Gangei 2-5). …
