Korean novelist. Pen name: Kasan. Graduated from the Department of English Literature at Keijo Imperial University. While still a student, he made his debut with the short story "Traveller" published in the Daily Newspaper in 1925, and published the short story "City and Ghost" in 1928. In 1931, he became a teacher at Gyeongseong Agricultural School in North Hamgyong Province, and in 1934, a professor at Chongsil Vocational School in Pyongyang. From this time, he participated in the founding of the pure literature group "The Nine Men's Society" and became absorbed in exploring the purity of nature and the human body, producing short stories such as "Pig" (1933) and "When Buckwheat Blossoms Bloom" (36), which can be said to be the pinnacle of Korean language art. Other works he produced include the medium-length story "Pastoral City" (37), the long story "Pollen" (38), and "Infinite Blue Sky" (40).

朝鮮の小説家。号，可山。京城帝国大学英文学科卒業。在学中の 1925年『毎日申報』に発表した短編『旅人』でデビュー，28年短編『都市と幽霊』を発表。 31年咸鏡北道鏡城農業学校教師，34年平壌の崇実専門学校教授となった。この頃から純文学派グループ『九人会』の旗揚げに参加するなど自然と人間本体の純粋性の探究に没頭，『豚』 (1933) ，『そばの花咲く頃』 (36) など朝鮮言語芸術の頂点といえる短編を創作した。ほかに中編『町の牧歌』 (37) ，長編『花粉』 (38) ，『碧空無限』 (40) など。
