A coelenterate of the Anthozoa class, family Anemonidae (illustration). It is also called the green sea anemone because it is entirely green. It is distributed along the coasts of southwestern Hokkaido, Honshu, and Kyushu, and is commonly found in the crevices of rocky reefs and in areas where pebbles and sand have accumulated. Its body is cylindrical, 2-6 cm high and 2-4 cm wide, but it often tapers in the middle. The body wall is lined with 96 small bright green warts arranged vertically, and is covered with small amounts of sand and shell fragments. The tentacles are pale yellow with two green stripes running the entire length and reddish brown at the base.

花虫綱ウメボシイソギンチャク科の腔腸動物（イラスト）。全体が緑色なところからミドリイソギンチャクとも呼ばれる。北海道南西部より本州，九州の海岸に分布し，岩礁の割れ目や小石や砂がたまっているところでふつうに見られる。体の高さは2～6cm，幅2～4cmの円筒状であるが，中央部が細くなっていることが多い。体壁には鮮緑色の小さないぼが縦に96列も並んでいて砂や貝殻片を少量つけている。触手は淡黄色で，2本の緑色のすじが全長にわたってあり，基部は赤褐色である。
