Chief guardian - Omokōken

...Normally, Noh requires two actors and Kyogen requires one, but in serious plays such as rituals, Noh requires three actors and Kyogen requires two. When there are two or more actors, the main actor is called the omokoken. In the event of an unexpected incident, such as when an actor stops speaking, it is the omokoken's role to add the lyrics, and in an extreme case, if an actor falls ill or breaks down during a performance, the omokoken will immediately take over and continue the performance.
