Kerry Blue Terrier

Japanese: ケリー･ブルー･テリア[種]（英語表記）Kerry blue terrier

It is a domestic dog that originated in the UK. It is a local dog of Ireland, and has long been kept in the mountainous Kerry region. At the time, it was used as a herding dog for sheep and cattle, and was also used as a working terrier for hunting small game and birds. Unlike most terrier breeds, its coat is curly, soft, and dense, and is almost jet black when young, but from around 12 months of age, it gradually takes on a bluish hue, which appears beautiful in the light. The breed's name comes from this coat color and the place of origin.

原産地がイギリスの家庭犬。アイルランドの地犬で，山岳地帯のケリーKerry地方で古くから飼われていた。当時はヒツジやウシを追う牧畜犬で，小野獣や鳥の狩猟にも活躍したワーキング･テリアworking terriersの一つである。被毛は多くのテリア種とは異なり，カールしていて柔らかく密で，幼若期はほとんど真っ黒であるが，12ヵ月齢ころからしだいに青みを帯び，青が光に美しく映えて見えるようになる。品種名はこの毛色と原産地名に由来する。
