Born: August 20, 1628, Granada
[Died] October 13, 1688. Spanish sculptor in Malaga. After studying under his father, who was also a sculptor, he became assistant to A. Cano in 1652 and was strongly influenced by his Baroque style. In 1658 he went to Malaga and set up a workshop, working on the decoration of the cathedral's choir stalls. In 1663 he traveled to Madrid and Toledo, where he was registered as a sculptor at Toledo Cathedral. In 1664 he returned to Malaga and produced numerous polychrome woodcarvings, expressing strong religious sentiment in a realistic style, for churches throughout Spain. His most famous work is "Saint Francis of Assisi" (Toledo Cathedral).

[Died] 1456. Torrelaguna Spanish poet. A favorite of King Juan II and a close friend of the Marquis de Santiliana. He produced many lyric poems, but his most famous work is El laberinto de fortuna (1444), which, modeled on Dante's work, paved the way for the birth of Renaissance poetry.
