Born: August 20, 1628, Granada [Died] October 13, 1688. Spanish sculptor in Malaga. After studying under his father, who was also a sculptor, he became assistant to A. Cano in 1652 and was strongly influenced by his Baroque style. In 1658 he went to Malaga and set up a workshop, working on the decoration of the cathedral's choir stalls. In 1663 he traveled to Madrid and Toledo, where he was registered as a sculptor at Toledo Cathedral. In 1664 he returned to Malaga and produced numerous polychrome woodcarvings, expressing strong religious sentiment in a realistic style, for churches throughout Spain.
