Prime minister of the Later Tang, Later Jin, Later Han, Later Zhou and Liao dynasties of China during the Five Dynasties. Also read as "Hyoudou". Born in Jingcheng, Yingzhou (Hebei Province). His pen name was Kedao. He served Emperor Zhuang of the Later Tang dynasty as a Hanlin scholar and a Zhongshu Sheren, and during Emperor Ming's reign he became an assistant minister of the Ministry of War and then a Zhongshu Sheren, Tong Zhongshu Men Xiaping Zhangshi. After the Later Jin dynasty destroyed the Later Tang dynasty, he served Emperor Gaozu (Shi Jingtang) of the Later Jin dynasty as a Tong Zhongshu Men Xiaping Zhangshi. After the Khitan destroyed the Later Jin dynasty, he served the Khitan as Taifu. After the Khitan returned north and Emperor Gaozu (Liu Zhiyuan) of the Later Han dynasty rose to power, he served the Later Zhou dynasty as Grand Tutor and Zhongshu Ling. Because he served each court one after the other during the turbulent period of the Five Dynasties, he was later criticized as a representative of unprincipled people, but he was also admired by people of his time for preaching benevolence and justice and paying attention to civil affairs.

中国，五代の後唐，後晋，後漢，後周および遼の宰相。「ひょうどう」とも読む。瀛州景城 (河北省) の人。字は可道。後唐の荘宗に仕え，翰林学士，中書舎人戸部侍郎となり，明宗のときには兵部侍郎を経て，中書侍郎同中書門下平章事となった。後晋が後唐を滅ぼすと後晋の高祖 (→石敬瑭 ) に仕えて同中書門下平章事，契丹が後晋を滅ぼすと契丹に仕えて太傅 (たいふ) ，契丹が北に帰り，後漢の高祖 (→劉知遠 ) が立つと太師，さらに後漢を滅ぼした後周に仕えて太師兼中書令となった。五代の混乱時代に次々に各朝に仕えたため，後世無節操の代表者のように批判されたが，仁義を説き，民政に気を配るなど，時人は嘆賞したという。
