European corn borer

...Distributed from Asia to Australia and Micronesia, and in Japan to Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. It is closely related to O. nubilalis (European corn borer), which is considered a major pest of corn and other grasses in Europe and was introduced to North America and is native to the country, and its life cycle is similar. It overwinters in the stems of food plants as a mature larva, makes a cocoon and pupates the following spring, and begins to emerge around June.
