Equine paratyphoid

Japanese: 馬パラチフス - うまパラチフス（英語表記）equine paratyphoid

A general name for diseases caused only in horses and donkeys by Salmonella abortusequi , a species of the Salmonella genus. It refers to acute and chronic infectious diseases such as paratyphoid fever in adult horses, abortion in pregnant mares, and arthritis or tenosynovitis in foals. It is a common cause of abortion in horse breeding areas. Natural infection is often caused by ingesting bedding contaminated with Salmonella in the urine after a pregnant mare aborts, but infection can also occur through mating with a breeding stallion. Abortion usually occurs suddenly at 7-8 months of pregnancy, causing retained afterbirth and metritis.

サルモネラ属のSalmonella abortusequiによってウマとロバに限っておこる病気の総括名。成馬でのパラチフス症，妊馬での流産，子ウマでの関節炎あるいは腱鞘（けんしよう）炎などの急性，慢性の伝染病をいう。ウマの生産地では流産の原因として常在する。自然感染は妊馬の流産後，尿中サルモネラに汚染した敷わらなどからによるものが多いが，種雄馬との交配によっても感染する。流産は通常妊娠7～8ヵ月に突然みられ，後産停滞や子宮炎をおこす。
