Japanese: 善愷訴訟事件 - ぜんがいそしょうじけん

In 846 (Jowa 13), Zenkai, a monk of Horyu-ji Temple, directly sued the benkan against Tomi no Tadana, a parishioner of Horyu-ji Temple and a junior councilor at the time, for illegally taking possession of temple property. Such cases of tyranny by parishioners were common at the time, but this lawsuit was particularly aroused by a movement led by Dosen to restore autonomy among the monks of Horyu-ji Temple, who had reached a critical point of stagnation in the early 9th century and had been alienated from their parishioners, the Tomi clan. At first, Left Great Bench Prince Masamune and others sentenced Naona to exile, but Tomo no Yoshio, a powerful right junior benign who was favorable to the Tomi clan, impeached him for accepting an appeal without going through the priests' rope, treating Zenkai unduly leniently, and passing judgment on insufficient evidence, leading to the punishment of the benkan, including Masamune.

法隆寺僧の善愷が846年(承和13)，法隆寺檀越で当時少納言であった登美直名（とみのただな）を，寺産を不正に自己のものとしたとして直接弁官に訴えた事件。このような檀越の専横は当時多く見られたが，この訴訟はことに，9世紀初頭に沈滞の極に達し檀越登美氏から疎外されていた法隆寺僧の，道詮を中心とした自主性回復運動を背景としていた。初め左大弁正躬王らによって直名に遠流の判決が下ったが，僧綱を通さない越訴を受理し，善愷を不当に寛大に扱い，不十分な証拠で判決を下したとして，登美氏に好意的な実力者右少弁伴善男（とものよしお）が弾劾，正躬王ら弁官が罰せられるに至った。
