Japanese: 聟島列島 - むこじまれっとう

An archipelago at the northernmost tip of the Ogasawara Islands in Tokyo. The largest island, Mukojima, is centered on Kitanoshima, Nakodojima, Yomejima, and 19 other small islands, which are distributed over an area of sea measuring 11km east to west and 32km north to south. It belongs to Ogasawara Village, Ogasawara Subprefecture. Before World War II, a few farmers and fishermen lived on Mukojima and Yomejima, but today they are uninhabited. After World War II, the islands came under the control of the United States military, but were returned to Japan in 1968. In 2011, they were registered as a natural World Heritage site.

東京都，小笠原諸島の最北端にある列島。最大の聟島を中心に，北之島，媒島（なこうどじま），嫁島など 19の小島が，東西 11km，南北 32kmの海域に分布している。小笠原支庁小笠原村に属する。第2次世界大戦前は若干の農漁民が聟島，嫁島に居住していたが，今日では無人島。第2次世界大戦後はアメリカ合衆国軍の管理下に置かれていたが，1968年復帰。2011年世界遺産の自然遺産に登録。
