Born: May 23, 1842 in Suwauki
[Died] October 8, 1910, Lvov. Polish female poet and novelist. Her works are filled with sympathy and charity for the people who had been devastated by the country's long-standing crises, and are widely read to this day. She is also known as the mother of Polish children's literature. Her representative works include the long poem Pan Balcer w Brazylii (1910), the novel Cztery nowele (1888), On the Way (Na drodze) (93), and the fairy tale O krasnoludkach i sierotce Marysi (O krasnoludkach i sierotce Marysi) (96).
