A theater in Edo. In the early Edo period, the hokashi (master of the play) Kyusaburo moved to Sakaimachi, changed his name to Miyako Dennai, and performed there. Later, around the Manji period (1658-61), hokashi (master of the play) came down from Kamigata and called themselves Miyako Dennai, and the former came to be called Inishie Dennai. Shindennai also died out in the early Genroku period (1688-1704), but in 1793 (Kansei 5), when Nakamuraza was closed, Miyako Dennai, who claimed to be a descendant of the old Dennai, performed as a reserve yagura (a reserved yagura) for the Ichimuraza. In 1817 (Bunka 14), Miyakoza took over as a reserve yagura for the Ichimuraza due to poor performance of Kiriza. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
