…A semi-parasitic annual plant of the Scrophulariaceae family that grows in low mountain grasslands (illustration). The stems, which grow upright from weak roots, are 30-70 cm tall. The leaves are opposite on the lower part and alternate on the upper part, ovate, deeply lobed into broad linear lobes, 1.5-5 cm long and 1-3 cm wide, and covered with short hairs. In August and September, flowers with a bright yellow color and a conspicuous lip-shaped corolla with a reddish-brown underside on the upper lip appear next to the upper leaves. The flowers are tubular, enclosed in a calyx with 10 longitudinal stripes, 2.8 cm long, and have a flattened tubular upper lip with a pointed tip. …
