... In this environment, student organizations in each country were becoming increasingly active. These include UNEF (National Union of French Students) in France, SDS (Socialist Students of Germany) in West Germany, UNURI (Italian National Union of Students) in Italy, SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) and SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) in the United States. Many of these student organizations were founded around the same time as the Bund was founded in Japan, with the ideals of anti-fascism, national liberation, and the elimination of racial discrimination. They expanded in response to the influence of the Chinese Cultural Revolution and dissatisfaction with the outdated university system, and further to anti-war and peace movements in response to the Vietnam War. ...
