A former town in Mitsugi County, southeastern Hiroshima Prefecture. Occupying the Mitsugi River basin, a tributary of the Ashida River, the town cultivates rice and is known for its kushi-gaki persimmons. In recent years, an industrial complex has been developed. Many people commute to Fuchu and Onomichi. The town is centered around a market town, and National Route 184 runs through it.
