Three types are known: antimony(III) chloride, antimony(V) chloride, and antimony nonachloride.
[Antimony(III) chloride]
Also known as antimony trichloride. Chemical formula: SbCl ₃ . Colorless, prismatic or octahedral crystals. It can be obtained by reacting chlorine directly with antimony, or by dissolving stibnite Sb ₂ S ₃ in hydrochloric acid, concentrating it, and distilling it. Melting point: 73.4°C, boiling point: 223°C, specific gravity: 3.14 (20°C). It is highly deliquescent and often becomes a viscous semi-liquid if left untreated, and has long been known as antimony butter.

　三塩化アンチモンともいう。化学式SbCl₃。無色柱状または八面体の結晶。アンチモンに直接塩素を反応させるか，輝安鉱Sb₂S₃を塩酸に溶かして濃縮し，蒸留しても得られる。融点73.4℃，沸点223℃，比重3.14(20℃)。潮解性が強く，放置すると粘い半液状となることが多く，アンチモンバターの名で古くから知られている。
