A city in southern Hyogo Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. The central city area along the Minou River, a tributary of the Kakogawa River, developed as a castle town of Miki Castle owned by the Bessho clan until the Tensho era. It is served by the Kobe Electric Railway Ao Line, the Chugoku Expressway, the Sanyo Expressway, and the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway. It is a metalworking city famous for its Miki hardware, which has a tradition dating back to the Edo period, and produces and exports a large number of carpentry tools, household hardware, and gardening tools. The surrounding area is a producer of rice for sake brewing (Yamada Nishiki), and is also thriving in flower and vegetable cultivation and dairy cattle breeding. The hilly area in the southeast has been rapidly developed into residential areas, making it a commuter town for Kobe City. It is home to the large resort Greenpia Miki. In October 2005, Yoshikawa Town, Minou County, was incorporated into the city. It has an area of ​​176.51 km2 . Population: 81,009 (2010).

兵庫県南部の市。1954年市制。加古川の支流美嚢(みのう)川に沿う中心市街は天正年間まで別所氏の三木城の城下町として発達。神戸電鉄粟生(あお)線,中国自動車道,山陽自動車道,舞鶴若狭自動車道が通じる。江戸期以来の伝統をもつ三木金物で有名な金物工業都市で,大工道具,家庭用金物,園芸用器具を多産,輸出する。周辺は酒造米(山田錦)産地で,花卉(かき)・野菜栽培,乳牛飼育も盛ん。南東部の丘陵地は宅地化が著しく,神戸市のベッドタウンになっている。大規模な保養地グリーンピア三木がある。2005年10月美嚢郡吉川町を編入。176.51km2。8万1009人(2010)。
