Dickins, FV (English spelling) DickinsFV

...As it was later described as the "School of Parkes," many of his subordinates, including EM Sato, WG Aston, Algernon Bertram Freeman-Mitford (1837-1916), Francis Ottiwell Adams (1825-89), John Harrington Gubbins (1852-1929), and Joseph Henry Longford (1849-1925), were trained to be experts on Japan in their own fields. Other members of this "school" included military personnel Frederick Victor Dickins (1838-1915) and Francis Brinkley (1841-1912), and linguist BH Chamberlain. However, until the early 1870s, the learning results of these "students" appeared in diplomatic documents, a small magazine edited by J. Summers, a Chinese teacher at London University, and mainly in the journals of the Asiatic Society of Japan in Yokohama (1872 onwards), and rarely had a direct impact on the Western reading public.
