Okuyamaso - Okuyamanosho

The manor stretches from the northern part of Kambara County to the southern part of Iwafune County in Echigo Province. It is an area that spans the current Kajikawa district of Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture, Tainai City, and Sekikawa Village in Iwafune County. It was the territory of the regent family. The lord who developed it was the Jo clan. After the establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate, Wada Yoshimochi was appointed as the land steward of Okuyama Manor, and the land was passed down from Yoshimochi's younger brother Munezane, Yoshimochi's son Shigemochi, and Shigemochi's wife Tsumuraama to Tokimochi. Tokimochi handed the manor over to his grandsons Mochinaga, Mochitsura, and Yoshimoto in three parts, and the three families of Kurokawa, Nakajo, and Sekizawa were separated. The "Echigo Province Okuyamasho Namizuki no Jo Map," created in the late Kamakura period, is a valuable resource for learning about the landscape of manors at the time. After the fall of the Kamakura shogunate, the Kurokawa clan belonged to the Ashikaga clan, and the Nakajo clan had their territories confiscated for a time, but regained them during the civil war. Both clans became powerful local lords in the Agaki region of Echigo Province, and the Sekizawa clan also became vassals of the Shugo Uesugi clan.

越後(えちご)国蒲原(かんばら)郡北部から岩船郡南部にわたる荘園。現在の新潟県新発田(しばた)市加治川(かじかわ)地区、胎内(たいない)市と岩船郡関川村にまたがる地域。摂関家領。開発領主は城(じょう)氏。和田義茂(よしもち)が鎌倉幕府成立後奥山荘地頭職(じとうしき)に補任(ぶにん)され、義茂の弟宗実(むねざね)、義茂の子重茂(しげもち)、さらに重茂の妻津村尼(つむらあま)から時茂(ときもち)に伝領された。時茂は孫である茂長(もちなが)、茂連(もちつら)、義基に荘園を三分して譲り、黒川、中条、関沢の3家が分立した。鎌倉後期に作成された「越後国奥山庄波月条(なみづきのじょう)絵図」は当時の荘園の景観を知るうえで貴重なものである。鎌倉幕府の滅亡以後、黒川氏は足利(あしかが)氏に属し、また中条氏は一時所領を没収されたが、内乱の過程で所領を回復し、ともに越後国揚北(あがきた)地方の有力国人となり、また関沢氏も守護上杉氏の被官となっていった。
