Mount Emei - Gabisan

A famous mountain at the southern end of the Qionglai Mountain Range in the Kunlun Mountain Range, about 40 km west of Leshan City in central Sichuan Province, China. Of the three peaks, Wanfoding (3,099 meters) is the highest. A temple was built here in the 2nd century, and Taoism was the main religion until the Tang Dynasty, but it later became Buddhist, and in the 16th century it was considered a Buddhist holy place. Today, there are temples of various styles, but the Wannian Temple, built in the 4th century, is an important cultural property of the province. In addition, the statue of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, which is 9.1 meters tall and weighs about 6.2 tons and is said to have been made at the end of the 17th century, is an important cultural property of China. After liberation, accommodation facilities were built, and this mountain, which has many scenic spots, is visited by many people every year. The four great wonders of this mountain are sunrise, sea of ​​clouds, treasure light (Brocken phenomenon), and divine light (light from phosphate ore). This mountain was registered as a mixed World Heritage Site (a heritage site with both cultural and natural value) in 1996 together with the Leshan Giant Buddha in Leshan City (World Mixed Heritage Site).

中国、四川(しせん/スーチョワン)省中部、楽山(らくざん/ローシャン)市の西約40キロメートル、崑崙(こんろん/クンルン)山系邛崍(きょうらい)山脈南端の名山。三つの峰のうち万仏頂(3099メートル)が最高峰である。2世紀にここに寺院が建立され、唐代までは道教が主であったが、その後仏教化し、16世紀には仏教の聖地とされた。今日、さまざまな様式の寺院があるが、4世紀建立の万年寺は省の重要文化財。また、ここにある高さ9.1メートル、重さ約6.2トン、17世紀末の作とされる普賢菩薩(ふげんぼさつ)像は中国の重要文化財である。解放後、宿泊設備が設置され、多くの景勝地をもつこの山には毎年多数の人々が入山する。日の出、雲海、宝光(ブロッケン現象)、神灯(燐(りん)鉱石の光)はこの山の四大奇観である。この山は楽山市にある楽山大仏とともに1996年に世界遺産の複合遺産(文化、自然の両方の価値がある遺産)として登録されている(世界複合遺産)。
