Monochromator

A spectrometer is a type of spectrometer used to extract monochromatic light of a desired wavelength from incident light, and can be broadly divided into prism type, diffraction grating type, and a combination of both. It consists of exit and entrance slits, a collimator, and other lenses, mirrors, and a prism or diffraction grating. As the main part of a spectrophotometer, spectrometers with a variety of wavelength ranges and resolutions are widely used, and they can also be incorporated into various devices as spectrometers to analyze light absorption or emission spectra, or conversely, used as a filter with an appropriate light source. The 60° prism type is primarily used for visible and near-ultraviolet light, while diffraction grating types are used not only in this range but also for a wider range of light, and there are transmission and reflection types.

入射光のなかから単色化された任意の波長の光を取り出すのに用いられる分光器をいい，プリズム型，回折格子型，および両者併用型に大別される．出口および入口スリット，コリメーター，およびそのほかのレンズ，鏡類とプリズムあるいは回折格子からなる．分光光度計の主要部分として，いろいろな波長範囲および分解能をもつものが非常に広汎に用いられているほか，これ自身が分光器としていろいろな機器に組み込まれて，光吸収あるいは発光スペクトルの解析や，逆に適当な光源とともにフィルターとして利用される場合もある．プリズム型は60°型のものが主として可視および近紫外光に対して用いられ，一方，回折格子型はこの領域だけでなく，より広い範囲の光に対して用いられ，これには透過型と反射型がある．
