A school of French psychiatry. Just as Paris was the cultural center of France, there is a history of many French psychiatrists working in the field of psychiatry, with hospitals such as the Salpêtrière and Bicêtre in Paris as their clinical and research sites. Around 1866, the Sainte-Anne facility (Rue de la Santé, 14th arrondissement, Paris), which had previously been used exclusively for treatment, became a group of hospitals collectively known as the Psychiatric Clinics, and a psychiatry department was established there.
