The largest fishery company. It started as Hayashikane Shoten, a fresh fish brokerage and transport business founded by Nakabe Ikujiro in 1880, and expanded into the fishing industry in 1916. It focused on Antarctic whaling, but in 1943, due to the Fisheries Control Act, it became the Western Pacific Fisheries Control Company along with its affiliated Taiyo Whaling and Deep Sea Whaling businesses. It changed its name to Taiyo Fisheries in 1945, and took its current name in 1993. It also handled transport and shipbuilding, focusing on North Pacific and Antarctic whaling, but due to a downturn in the fishing industry, it expanded into general food production, including processing, freezing, and agricultural and livestock products, and is now a comprehensive food company. It was renamed Maruha Group Headquarters in April 2004. In 2007, Maruha and Nichiro merged to become Maruha Nichiro Holdings. → Related topics Fisheries companies Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
