Arahae

Japanese: 荒南風 - あらはえ

The word hae (southern wind) is a dialect used mainly in western Japan, but it is becoming a national word because it is used in poetry. There are different kinds of hae, the black hae that blows at the beginning of the rainy season, the rough hae that blows in the middle of the rainy season, and the white hae that blows at the end of the rainy season. Since hae is a summer seasonal word, the rough hae can be included in this category.

南風(はえ)ということばは主に西日本で使われる方言だが、詩歌に詠まれるので全国版になりつつある。南風にも種類があり、梅雨入りの頃に吹くのが黒南風。梅雨半ばのそれは荒南風。梅雨が明ける頃に吹くのが白南風。南風は夏の季語なので、荒南風もこれに入れてよいであろう。

梅雨どきの南風は天が暗くなり、梅雨明け後の南風は天が明るくなるので、黒、白の名がついている。この風を青嵐で詠む人もある。
