A medieval castle located in Uto City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Hirayamajiro ( Hirayama Castle ) was built by Konishi Yukinaga in 1589 (Tensho 17). A triple-story castle tower was built, but Yukinaga was defeated in the Battle of Sekigahara. Kato Kiyomasa, who held 300,000 koku of land in Midorikawa, Higo Province, annexed Konishi's territory and was granted 540,000 koku of land as a reward for his military achievements, and took possession of Uto Castle. After the Kato clan was abolished and the area came under the rule of the Hosokawa clan, the Uto Jin'ya, the clan office of the Uto clan, was built on the site. The remains of the early modern Uto Castle are maintained as Shiroyama Park, and the stone walls, moat, and earthworks remain. Take a bus from Uto Station on the JR Mikata Line or Kagoshima Main Line to the Ichiriguchi stop, and it is about a 10-minute walk. ◇It is also called Tsuruno Castle.
