A military commander in the Sengoku period. The eighth head of the Mikawa Matsudaira clan. Lord of Okazaki Castle. Son of Kiyoyasu. Father of Tokugawa Ieyasu. When he was 10 years old, his father Kiyoyasu was stabbed to death by his retainer Abe Yashiro while marching to Owari Moriyama to fight against Oda Nobuhide. He was chased out of Okazaki Castle by his great-uncle Nobusada and wandered through Ise, Totomi, and Mikawa. Later, with the support of Imagawa Yoshimoto, he finally returned to Okazaki in 1537 (Tenbun 6), but even after that, the Matsudaira clan continued to have internal conflicts with the Imagawa and Oda forces as their backing. In the midst of all this, in 1541 he married the daughter (Odai) of Mizuno Tadamasa, lord of Kariya Castle in Mikawa, and the following year Takechiyo (Ieyasu) was born. After that, in 1545 he attacked Anjo Castle, and in 1547 he captured Tahara Castle, the stronghold of Toda Yasumitsu, but when Oda Nobuhide attacked, he took Takechiyo hostage and asked Imagawa Yoshimoto for help. It was at this time that Takechiyo was captured by Toda Yasumitsu near Tahara on his way to Sunpu, and sent to the Oda clan. He later devoted himself to the subjugation of Mikawa, but in March of 1555 he was stabbed to death by his trusted vassal Iwamatsu Hachiya.
