In Europe, blind people also traveled from town to town, village to village, singing Saint's Day songs or taking supporting roles in the entertainment at festivals and feasts. In Russia, blind or otherwise disabled pilgrims (kaliki) traveled from place to place, stopping at fairs and marketplaces, or in front of monasteries, to ask for alms by singing pilgrim songs based on religious legends or the Apocrypha. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Kaliki" are listed below.
