Juel, J.

…The first Danish artist to achieve international fame was the sculptor Thorvaldsen, who spent a long time in Rome and produced many neoclassical works. Among his contemporaries were the portraitist Jens Juel (1745-1802) and the still-life painter Abyrgård. Romanticism was represented by Thorvaldsen's pupils Freund, Vissen the Elder and Jerikköpf.
