Located in the city of Agra, India, this mausoleum was built by Shah Jahan of the Mughal Empire for his beloved wife. Its name comes from the name of the wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Construction began around 1632 and took 22 years (some say 17) to complete. A vast garden is surrounded by walls on three sides, and the white marble mausoleum stands in the center of the northern edge, bordered by the Yamuna River. There are minarets (spires) at the four corners of the 56m square base, and the large dome in the center of the mausoleum is 58m high.
