Located in Masumida, Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture. The enshrined deity, Ame-no-hoakari-no-mikoto, is described in the Nihon Shoki as the son of Amaterasu Omikami's son, Ame-no-Oshihomimi-no-mikoto, and is the distant ancestor of the Owari clan. This shrine enshrines the ancestor of the Owari clan, who developed Owari Province, and according to the shrine's legend, it was founded during the reign of Emperor Jimmu. In 847 (Jowa 14), it was awarded the rank of Junior Fifth Rank, in 851 (Jinju 1) it was listed as an official shrine, in 853 it was awarded the rank of Junior Fourth Rank, and in 865 (Jogan 7) it was awarded the rank of Senior Fourth Rank. It was listed as a Myojin Taisha in the Engishiki Shinmyocho (list of Shinto shrines), and later became the Ichinomiya (first shrine) of Owari Province. It was formerly a nationally-hei medium-sized shrine. The 12 Bugaku masks are designated as important cultural properties of the country. The annual festival is held on April 3rd.
