Japanese: サケイ(沙鶏) - サケイ（英語表記）sandgrouse

A general term for birds of the Pteroclidae family (columbiformes), or one of these species (illustration). A total of 16 species are known, distributed throughout Africa, central and southern Asia, and southern Europe. They live mainly in dry grasslands and wilderness, living in flocks on the ground. Total length 23-42 cm. Their bodies are about the size of a pigeon, stocky, but their wings are long and slender, making them powerful flyers. Their beaks are short, have no wax membrane at the base, and are short and conical. Their plumage is brown or sandy overall, with black or gray patterns.
