Aquila (Eagle)

Japanese: わし座(鷲座) - わしざ（英語表記）Aquila

Its abbreviation is Aql. It is a constellation seen in early summer along the Milky Way. In Greek mythology, it is a great eagle that the great god Zeus transformed into to kidnap the beautiful Trojan boy Ganymede, and in the constellation Ganymede is a boy carrying a water jar in the constellation Aquarius. The alpha star Altair (the flying eagle) is a bright star of type A7 with a magnitude of 0.8, and is famous as the Tanabata star Altair (Japanese name Hikoboshi). On either side are beta star with a magnitude of 3.9 and gamma star with a magnitude of 2.7, forming a straight line like a triple star. In China, this is called Hegusansei, and in Japan, it is called Inukaisei.

略号はAql。天の川沿いに見える初夏の星座。ギリシア神話では大神ゼウスがトロイアの美少年ガニュメデスをさらうために化身した大鷲の姿で，ガニュメデスは星座ではみずがめ座の水がめをかつぐ少年の姿になっている。α星アルタイル(とぶ鷲)は光度0.8等，A7型の輝星で，七夕の牽牛星(和名は彦星)として有名である。両脇に光度3.9等のβ星，光度2.7等のγ星を従え，三ッ星のように一直線に並ぶが，中国ではこれを河鼓三星と呼び，日本では〈犬飼星〉と呼んでいる。
