Kannoura

It is one of the central districts of Toyo Town, Aki County, in the northeastern tip of Kochi Prefecture. It borders Tokushima Prefecture. It is a natural harbor located on a subsident coast with many inlets, and has long been a relay port connecting Tosa with Awa and Kamigata. During the Edo period, it was also the port from which people departed for the country on their alternate attendance tours. During the Meiji period, it became a base for bonito and whaling fishing, and a regular route was opened between the Hanshin area and the area. Later, a ferry service was operated between Kobe and Tosashimizu, but it was discontinued in 2005. National Route 55 runs through the area, and there is Kouura Station, the terminus of the Asa Kaigan Railway.

高知県北東端、安芸(あき)郡東洋町の中心地区の一つ。徳島県に接する。湾入の多い沈降性海岸に位置する天然の良港で、古くから土佐と阿波(あわ)、上方(かみがた)を結ぶ中継港であった。江戸時代の参勤交代の際、この港から出国したこともある。明治期にはカツオ漁、捕鯨漁の基地となり、阪神との間に定期航路が開設され、その後は神戸、土佐清水間にフェリーが就航していたが、2005年（平成17）廃止となった。国道55号が通じ、阿佐海岸鉄道の終点となる甲浦駅がある。
