Born on January 15, 1898. Graduated from South Carolina State University in the United States. After serving as a pastor at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Japan, he became a professor at Japan Lutheran Theological University in 1950 and president of the university in 1964. He also served as chairman of the board of directors of the Japan Bible Society and contributed to the publication of the joint translation of the Bible. He passed away on June 30, 1989.
