Mount Iya

Japanese:
Mount Iya
The name given to the mountainous area in the Iya River basin in the western part of Tokushima Prefecture. Due to the deep gorge and poor transportation, the area is seen as a different world by the people living in the plains, and there are legends and relics of the Heike clan that fled there. However, the social system of medieval lords and their subordinate residents was an obstacle to unified rule by the feudal lords of the early modern period, and many small lords were wiped out after a long campaign by the lord of Tokushima. Of the remaining local lords, the Kita clan was entrusted with control of the mountains and began to wield influence.
