Born: circa 946, Jerusalem
[Died] c. 1000 Arab geographer. Commonly known as Muqaddasī. His grandfather was a famous architect. He traveled extensively throughout the Islamic world, from northwestern India and Sistan in the east to the Iberian Peninsula in the west. He completed his geography book around 985 and is thought to have been further revised in Kitāb al-aqālīm (Book of the Regions) or Aḥsān al-taqāsim fī ma`rifat al-aqālīm (The Best Division for Knowing the Regions), of which there are two variant versions. It is a unique book that incorporates the dialects of various Arab regions of the time.
